I am an Agnostic Technology Evangelist. Whether Apple or Android, PC or Mac, GUI or Command Line, Windows server or Linux server, Web application or Desktop one. My multiple years in the IT world provides employers and customers expertise with a variety of applications.
Education & Training
Many colleagues call me a presentation guru. My presentations engage, inform, and entertain attendees at local, regional, state, national, virtual, and international conferences. I also am a certified Blackboard trainer and can teach numerous other technologies.
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
My background includes a variety of experiences in the Instructional Design process. From the review and development of a course based on design models. To the creation course content and final review to ensure courses meet national and international standards.
COMMUNICATION & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
Many brilliant people understand technology, but lack the ability to explain a concept or concepts to non-technical users. I bridge the communication gap and develop relationships between departments and silos. My objective, in the end, ensures everyone understands the needs and issues each other face when trying to complete a project or task.
A Quick Overview of Terry Patterson
Terry Patterson is a seasoned Blackboard LMS administrator with over ten years of experience at various institutions. He has actively participated in Blackboard feedback panels and customer-led user groups, holding numerous leadership roles. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Blackboard Catalyst Award in 2009 and the inaugural Anthology Impact Award in 2023 for his impact on Blackboard and its client community. Terry has presented at state, national, and international conferences on emerging and advanced integrations with Blackboard. He holds certifications as a Blackboard Trainer and a Blackboard Server Administrator. In addition to his full-time role as IT Systems Analyst at Austin Community College and educational technology consultant, Terry dedicates his time to helping other system administrators by answering their questions and sharing his experiences on his Blackboard Guru blog: http://www.blackboardguru.com/.

Issues with Elsevier – Entitled to Too Much
Elsevier recently decided to shut down its current LMS. Now instructors and LMS system administrators must address content integrations between learning management systems and the company’s Evolve service. Blackboard Learn environments integrate with Evolve using an LTI/SOAP integration. Blackboard admins deal with these requests from publishers on a regular basis. However, this specific integration creates concerns for them and shows the company’s young experience with Blackboard Learn and this type of integration. Sufferin’ A SCORM Showstopper
Many of my Blackboard admin colleagues’ blood pressures rise when we talk about SCORM. SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) was developed by the US Secretary of Defense as part of their Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative. These standards and specifications were set in 2000 and haven’t had a major upgrade since 2010.
